Easy Crockpot Green Beans and Potatoes Recipe

These green beans and potatoes are a slow cooker recipe passed down from my mom’s recipes.

Growing up on a homestead in a large family, she said this was often a recipe they made from garden green beans and garden potatoes and could make it for a large family cheaply.

I’ve adapted it to make it as canned green beans and canned potatoes, also.

That way I can keep these easy ingredients in the pantry for emergency food prepping or even power outage cooking!

RECIPE TIP: I often make this recipe with leftover ham. If you have leftover ham from holiday recipes, throw it in the freezer for use in frugal recipes like this!

If you’re looking for recipes for a crowd or large family recipes on a budget, this is a great one for that.

You can use this as a one pot meal on it’s own (we like to eat it with homemade cornbread) or as an easy side dish for dinner or potluck recipe.

Notes

*I also sometimes add minced garlic, if I have it. (You can use jar garlic or fresh).
Also, for more flavor, you can add 1/2 pound bacon (uncooked, cut into pieces), leftover ham pieces, ham bone, or store-bought ham cubes in the package.
RECIPE TIP FOR EMERGENCY COOKING: In a pinch, like cooking during power outages, you can serve this uncooked or unheated. (Just make sure you have pre-cooked ham if you’re adding that.)
